Mother Earth

She’s everyone’s mother and grandmother too

With not many siblings, but more than a few

She’s big and round and quite rotund

And is usually quiet with an occasional sound

She’s blessed us with her bounty

But warns us not be selfish

For if we’re not wise and prudent

Her life we will extinguish

No one knows her real age

But we do know her father

He’s extremely powerful and wealthy

And he has no sister and neither a brother

Her benefactor resides far, far away

Yet manages to visit her everyday

He shines his light from morning to night

But when the day is done, so is his stay

She has countless children that she nourishes

And with her gift, her offspring flourishes

But be wary, cautious and very careful

If not, heaven’s thunder will be more than an earful

She does have a problem that keeps on growing

So many children have been overwhelming

And if mankind’s greed decimates her wealth

Then woe to the man she unleashes her wrath

So take heed mankind and acknowledge your birth

If you’re not careful, you’ll kill Mother Earth
