Mother Earth

She’s everyone’s mother and grandmother too

With not many siblings, but more than a few

She’s big and round and quite rotund

And is usually quiet with an occasional sound

She’s blessed us with her bounty

But warns us not be selfish

For if we’re not wise and prudent

Her life we will extinguish

No one knows her real age

But we do know her father

He’s extremely powerful and wealthy

And he has no sister and neither a brother

Her benefactor resides far, far away

Yet manages to visit her everyday

He shines his light from morning to night

But when the day is done, so is his stay

She has countless children that she nourishes

And with her gift, her offspring flourishes

But be wary, cautious and very careful

If not, heaven’s thunder will be more than an earful

She does have a problem that keeps on growing

So many children have been overwhelming

And if mankind’s greed decimates her wealth

Then woe to the man she unleashes her wrath

So take heed mankind and acknowledge your birth

If you’re not careful, you’ll kill Mother Earth

The Holidays

Christmas celebrates the birth of our Lord

So let us pray together and adhere to the word

May peace and kindness and love reign

And from evil deeds we must refrain

A new year awaits us with hope and promise

So let us begin it with a hug and a kiss

We thank the Lord with the numerous gifts

And pray that he grants us more moments like this

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a day we give thanks to the Lord

His blessings are far too numerous to record

The bounty we receive from mother earth are most

Are gifts we enjoy since our nation’s birth

From North to South, from East to West

Each and every one of us can attest

That our glorious country is surely the best

So cross your heart and shout on high

To friends, to family, to country God bless

A Friend

He was large in stature

And a giant in heart

With compassion and integrity

That one could never tear apart

An only child who cherished each friend

And he was loyal to the bitten end

With principles and values he would never bend

He possessed a vast knowledge of medicine

And cured many patients’ infirmities

With unblemished care and adherence to the venerated oath of Hippocrates

A loving husband and a nurturing father

Who put his family before any other

His extended family was limitless

With colleagues and friends too many to assess

God blessed him with a wonderful wife

Without question she was the love of his life

For his adoring children that numbered five

He set an example for them to strive

A more religious man would be hard to find

With an adherent advocacy for peace in mankind

For the clergy planted him a prolific seed

His Catholic education he valued indeed

For his family and friends he would try to please

But never abandon his morals to appease

Undeniably generous to everyone he knew

A charitable soul through and through

He was a great loss to the world indeed

And to many a heart that would surely bleed

But home he has gone to his Father in heaven

So let us pray together that we may see him again

Poem written in tribute to Dr. Lawrence Pazourek

My Granddaughter Anna

The twinkle in her eyes

That captivating smile

A dimple in her cheek

Makes a heart whisper

A million sighs

Her laughter is infectious

And her voice is very precious

She was named Anna

A name that conjures simplicity

And it can never be said

That she is guilty of duplicity

Her loveliness rivals a budding rose

And the innocence of her face always shows

Not a bone in her body is malicious

And no one could ever say she is capricious

She is only ten and I can’t wait for her to grow

For I know with each passing year

Will set a grandfather’s heart aglow

The Lord

The Lord is my armor, my sword, and my shield

To Him all my problems I readily yield

Though evil and fear lurk through the night

In comfort I live with his merciful might

The Lord is my armor, my sword, my shield

His infinite love is never repealed

Tough Satan and his followers flaunt their temptation

My love for the Lord is eternal salvation

The Lord is my armor, my sword, my shield

With my faith in Christ my future is sealed

The bonds of evil I righteously sever

For in Heaven I will live forever and ever
